    Dead Internal Battery

If the internal battery on my desktop pc is dead
could this cause my pc not to start?
And if so, by replacing it will I be able to start my
pc normally or do I have to do something else?
Reason I'm asking is my pc has power but no splash
screen shows up. The light indicator that shows
activity goes on briefly and the dvd light indicator
turns on briefly. But nothing happens, black screen.

    Help!

The most common MB battery is a CR-2032 Lithium. Usually found at most Drug stores, WalMart, etc. Arround $2. That would be a cheap test to try first.

But also double check all your other power connections, but it could be the PSU failure , also.

    Thanks for the reply.
However the PSU has a light indicator in the back
of the PC and it is "On", also the PC fans and DVD
operate. I will check the connections again.

Reseat the long 24 pin ATX MB connector. Do the same for the 4,6,or 8 pinATX 12v connector to the MB. Double check your front panel OFF/ON switch & that its wire leads are connected to the correct pins on the Front Panel Header on the MB. Re-seat all your memory sticks.

Another thought, Does your monitor work ok on any other computer ?

A dead motherboard battery will not stop your PC from working (in fact, the one I have at work has no battery installed). The only thing you would need to do would be to check that the time/date are correct and that you are using the correct IDE/SATA mode (if different from the default).

As regards power connections, have you checked the mains lead to the monitor?
