Disk check on external HD getting stuck

    Hello everyone,

I'm having some trouble performing disk checks on my 500gb external HD. Ive tried to run it twice through cmd prompt and through properties. They seem to get stuck at 37%. I've also run a check through Auslogics disk defrag program and it came back clean from there. I'm trying to do these checks because i'm also having trouble doing a backup on said drive, and that's the first thing they always tell you.. do a disk check. So is there anything I can do to make sure this drive is ok, so I can move on to the next problem lol

Also, is it supposed to use 90-98% of system memory to run?

Just an update, got the disk check to work

How did you get it to work? Mine is stuck and I don't know what to do? Just shut it down?

I finally just shut it down and ran again - it has stopped at the exact same place: At the same file when it is in stage four (verifying file data). I am running it with an /f.
