SSD Opinions Wanted

If I had a strong opinion on this I wouldn't ask, and some of you guys are much more experienced with these things than I:

I'm looking to get a 128GB boot SSD drive. I whittled it down to 3.

What is the best choice here:
  • A Samsung 840 Pro for $148.00
  • A Plextor M5P for $125.00
  • A Crucial M4 for $115.00

Why?

Samsung 840 Pro. Why? Reputation for quality.

The Samsung and Plextor you have listed are premium drives with premium performance, hence the extra few dollars. All 3 are proven performers and if you aren't looking for the top of the heap in terms of performance, save a few dollars and get the Crucial M4. Several forum members have one and they perform very well and are reliable. If I had to buy one today for a rig I use everyday, I would get the Samsung because it is, as of right now, the fastest MLC SSD on the market, and will likely be as reliable as last generations 830.

If you can afford the extra 30 bucks, get the Samsung 840 Pro. If you don't need the absolute fastest SSD out there, get the Crucial M4 and save the money. Any of those drives would be good though.

Another vote for the Samsung 840 Pro based on the specs and reviews. Note this is not the same as the Samsung 840, different animal I would not recommend.

Well, I'm totally happy with my M4 but get the Samsung if possible. I will say that I'm impressed by Crucials customer support, above and beyond imo.

I have a 120 Gb OCZ Vertex III, a 128 Gb Corsair Force III, a 128 Gb Kingston Hyper X and now a 128 Gb Samsung 840 Pro. For sheer performance the Samsung is the best of the lot and I don't regret paying a little extra for the Pro series.

What do you like about the hyper x and how does it compare to the other drives you have?

I have nothing bad to say about my Hyper X. I have had it for about a year now and it has been a solid performer. Performance wise, when I have run bench mark tests on each of them, the OCZ Vertex and Samsung have the best read/write rates for 4Kbs. I do data transfers of 10 Gb, or more regularly and that is where I most notice that difference in performance between the drives. For day to day use in running Windows 7, I really don't notice a difference between any of them and they pretty much boot up Windows in about the same amount time. So I guess it just depends on what your priorities are.

Hey gentleman. Thanks for the input.
I'll spring for a better drive if the performance is there in a real world sense. Your comments help a lot.

The new OCZ Vectors are nice and fast.
