Installing Additional SATA Hard Drive - Inquiry Hello everyone, me again, thanking in advance for any comments or suggestions or opinions.
My OS is windows 7 64bit and I am using H61M-P31G3 MSI mainboard. It has 4 SATA slots: SATA 1 for my 500GB HDD, SATA2 for my DVDRW Drive, and SATA3 & SATA 4 none connected
I have an older PC with 200GB SATA HDD, and I plan to remove this HDD and use only as back-up hard drive on my newer PC.
My inquiry is >> IF I INSTALL THE HDD CABLE (200GBHDD) ON MY SATA 3 or SATA 4 slot, WILL IT BE JUST A SIMPLE "PLUG & PLAY," meaning that after rebooting my PC I can now use the 200GB old SATA HDD as a backup &/or file storage hard drive? or anything else that i must do in order to use it as a backup &/or file storage drive.
have a nice day to all. | My System Specs |

Yes, it should be that simple. The OS will install device drivers for it when you boot. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built (GeneO industries)/Model 3 OS Windows 7 64 bit SP1 CPU i5 2500k @ 4.5 GHz, 1.264V 124 GFlop (IBT with AVX) Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB (4GBx4) 1600MHz G.skill Ripjaws X 8-8-8-24 Graphics Card MSI GTX 660 Ti PE/OC, 2GB 7160 MHz DDR5 clock, 1228 Mhz Core Sound Card Onboard Realtek HD Monitor(s) Displays NEC Spectraview 2490WUXi-SV Screen Resolution 1920 x 1200 Keyboard HP Wireless Mouse HP wireless PSU Seasonic X-850 (2012 KM3 model) Case Fractal Design "Define R3" Cooling CM TPC 812 push/pull, 3 120mm, 2 TY-140 case fans Hard Drives Samsung 128GB 840 Pro SSD (System), Crucial 128GB M4 SSD, 2x WD Caviar 1TB Black internal (data), 1x WD Blue 6Gb/s 1TB Internal, 1x 2TB eSata WD20EARS Green, 2x 500GB Seagate external USB, 1x 350GB exte Internet Speed 27.8 Mb/s down, 5.6 Mb/s up Other Info USB 3.0 x4 , SATA III x4, eSATA x3, SATA II x4, USB 2.0 x8. 2 Samsung DVD R/W drives.

If you have completely erased or "zero-written" that hard drive, when you install it you will need to go into Disk Management and Initialize the drive and either set up partitions, or just make it all usable space. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built OS Windows 7 Professional 64bit SP1 CPU Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4.5GHz Motherboard Asus Sabertooth Z77 Memory Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4) @1866MHz Graphics Card Intel HD4000 Sound Card Onboard Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell S2309W Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Max Nighthawk X8 Mechanical keyboard Mouse Logitech MX 500 Wired PSU Seasonic X750 80+ Gold Full Modular Case Antec Eleven Hundred Super Mid Tower Cooling Intel Liquid Cooler Hard Drives Samsung 830 128GB SSD - OS

Thanks a lot guys., the above-mentioned problem is resolve., and another good day to all.
Now I am planning of changing my other PC's HDD. Currently installed is 500GB SATA HDD. If I install another 1TB SATA HDD >> HOW DO I COPY the "Dual Boot Windows 7 & 8" from the old 500GB HDD to the new 1TB HDD?
Is it just the simple "copy all & paste?"
Thanks alot again. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 |

Thanks alot again. No. Some system files won't be copied, and the MBR (master boot record) won't be copied. You'll want drive cloning software.
Some may have come with the new drive (retail), or be available for download from the drive maker (for a bare drive). I've used Acronis True Image, which isn't free (but not expensive.) | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number homegrown OS Windows 7 Pro X64 SP1 CPU Intel Core I7-3930k Motherboard Asus P9X79 Pro Memory 16 GB Gskill DDR3-2133 Graphics Card eVGA GTX680 Sound Card Creative X-Fi Titanium Monitor(s) Displays As PA246Q Screen Resolution 1920 X 1200 Keyboard cheap Logitech USB Mouse Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer (old optical) USB PSU PCP&C Silencer 750 Crossfire Case Silverstone FT02 Cooling Noctua NH-D14 Hard Drives Corsair Force GT, 120 GB
