| Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit 10 posts | windows 7 webcam guys i have used different laptop models with web cams that work by opening an icon and not only by using skype. But after reinstalling windows 7 i am unable to use the webcams just for imaging .I am able to use the web cam through skype though. What type of drivers or applications should i look for? I have a toshiba sattelite and hp laptop with these problems at hand |

| Windows 8 64 bit PRO 492 posts Somewhere in California | The drivers probably are fine and correct, you lack the proper software that's design to just take standalone video or pictures via webcam. Most manufacturers provide software that does this job, when you reinstall you probably lost this software program too. Either attempt to remember the name and download it, or go to Support and Downloads on the manufacturers website and usually in their download section they will have this software package/suite. Or find 3rd party program that does this job, 3rd party programs are usually just as good. Manufacturers just install their own software because they want customers to experience a working product right out of the box, they would not want to force their customers to go online and find a 3rd party program. Let's face it were lazy we want things to work right away and everything to work together in complete integration . |

| Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit 10 posts | thanks alot chris. i will look on the manufacturer's site but doubt if i will find it.looked once for another toshiba and just got the drivers for the webcam only. DO u kno of any 3rd party softwares? aav tried googling to no avail. appreciate your help so much |

As always read user reviews . I prefer user reviews over editors reviews. |

| Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit 2,265 posts NC | Usually the software for webcams is arbitrarily placed with some other driver/software...not always but sometimes. Look in the utilities or others for the download. If I had your make and model of your laptop I could locate it for you. |
