    Can't Access BIOS After re-install

A few months back I needed to re-install the OS on my Acer laptop (specs in my system specs tab below), Acer has a partition on the hard drive with the OS in it (they don't give you a CD with the computer). Anyway, after the install everything works great. Yesterday I wanted to go into the set-up screen (BIOS) but now it asks for a password. Since I never set one up why does it ask for it now??? Is there a way to reset this password?

Only other way I can think of to remove the Bios password, would be to remove the Bios battery which will reset all default settings, Not sure where the battery would be in your laptop, Heres what it looks like: cmos battery - Google Search

You will need to remove it, wait a couple of minutes, then put it back. This should reset Bios settings. /Password.

I removed the battery for about 5 min and still have the same problem. Should I leave it out longer?

No, 5 Minutes should do it, in most cases you dont have to wait any longer then removing it, and replacing it.
You are removing the CMOS battery right? aswel as the big battery used to power the laptop on.

It's very strange how its not cleared the password.

I wonder if we upgrade the bios, Whats the make and model of your laptop again?

Did you take out the big laptop battery ? Did you unplug the AC power supply from the laptop ? Sometimes you have to hold down the ON/OFF switch for 10 to 15 seconds.

Note: some manufacturers are limiting access to the Bios or certain features. Did your have access previously ?

The specs of the laptop are in the lower left of my post, and yes I did take out the right and only battery.

While it would of been impossible to remove the CMOS battery without taking out the main battery unplugging it was my first step. Now one thing I did not do is press on the power button while the CMOS battery was out. I'll try that out. Also, yes before doing the re-install I could access it.

Ok, sounds like you basically know the right steps.. On some older computers, I had to leave the CMOS battery out for at least 30 minutes. Just a thought.
