need advice on which computer is better?

I have a buddy who is selling his HP pavilion computer (CHEAP!) which has intel pent g640 dual core with 2.8ghz and 6gb (upgradable to 32gb) of ram and if I buy it I plan on putting a 500w power supply and of course a better vid card and the computer I have now that I wanna replace with the HP is a no name brand intel quad core Q6600 2.4 4gb ram (MAX) and I wanna be able to game on it like I can do on my no name brand comp...is the one I have now more powerful than the HP? thanks

well although thats KINDA true, RAM isn't everything...I don't wanna get this other computer if the CPU will be the bottle neck...even though I can slap in more ram....thanks for your input! does anyone else have any more input?

The one with the Q6600 would be faster in games, I would think, if all else is equal. To me, buying the HP would be a downgrade.

If you are willing to spend the money on the HP, then why not just add or save up a little extra and build a new PC yourself?

because my buddy was selling this to me for dirt cheap...plus my Q6600 is getting old and the box is yuck! LOL but I guess I will keep it for now and pass on the HP...thanks for the input guys

Save the money as the start of funds for a new computer, then. That HP's processor is a step backwards in power.

A dual core Pentium is going to get spanked by a Core 2 Quad machine. That would be a downgrade for sure.
