Problem formatting hard drive

    That was a strange problem. Could it be because one drive was on IDE and the D: on SATA ?? I don't know.
    I would have preferred to have fixed it using only Windows apps/tools but I needed to get this fixed because I am giving the system to a friend soon.

    I wouldn't rule that out. I have built systems where they had both IDE and SATA drives. Very strange things would occur with the boot process. Usually it's a BIOS issue that goes overlooked and unsolved by the manufacturer.
