I ran a WD utitlty to check my HDD and it reported fault 7. Everything runs pretty much OK but now when I switch the machine on it reports a S.M.A.R.T. error and goes onto the BIOS which asks me to accept or decline tha changes. Should I accept the changes (whatever they are)?
I'm waiting delivery of a new HDD should be here early next week. Bizarrely I do have some experience in this area in that my original Seagate HDD became faulty 13 months ago and I bought this WD Caviar Blue and after plugging that in I managed to repair the Seagate with some Seagate tools and that has been sat happily there as backup ever since. The point being that it appears to me that if you can identify and mark the bad sectors you can carry on. So 13 months later (i.e. 1 month after warranty) the WD reports a fault and I run the WD software and I am presuming it has marked up some bad sectors. Bye the by I can't live with uncertainty and so a new WD Black is on it's way. So it's just a matter of making sure I don't get locked out before the new HDD arrives hence the question do I say yes or no to accepting the SMART changes?
