Single CPU on Dual board impedes performance??

Can only one CPU be installed on a dual-CPU motherboard without compromising performance?

Why do you want a dual CPU board in the first place o.O

Dual-cpu boards are basically for server use, don't let the ATX compatibility confuse you. If you were to use one for desktop use only it would be potentially problematic, and wouldn't make much of an improvement over an i7.

And why do you want one anyways?

I have never tried one cpu on a duel cpu board so I really don't know what would happen. My old duel exon board still has both cpus and it likes it that way.

What applications do you need it for? So far my only understanding is you want it for bragging rights.

That being said, i'm pretty sure that processors two or three years down the road will need a new and different motherboard. I'm not experienced with using dual-cpu systems, but my understanding is that they work best with two identical processors

What applications are you running that you think 64 GB of memory is a limitation?

RAMdisk?

Actually, having the boot drive as a ramdisk would be awesome. But I don't know if it can be implemented with Windows.

Actually, a lightweight VM server underneath Windows could possibly maintain a ramdisk...

I'm going to have to look into that.

FuturDreamz,

Can you tell me specifically what exactly would be "potentially problematic" when using it for desktop use?

Thanks.
