Memtest refuses to load!

Hey guys,

In an attempt to figure out what's up with my memory issues, I downloaded Memtest86+

First I burned it to a CD, and rebooted with it. It sat in DOS with the Loading......... text. I left it for hours, but it would never go past that. Even after several different burn attempts.

Then I installed it to a USB drive, but I couldn't get the BIOS to boot to it. Any idea how it get a Gigabyte mobo to pick the USB drive first? I can't figure it out.

It sound like either a bad image (a corrupted download file), or a bad burn. Try downloading the program again and burn another CD. If you did not use the native Windows 7 ISO burner then try that one.

To use a USB stick you can download va different file from Memtest, one for USB that has the boot loader you need included.

Memtest should start up in seconds. No need to wait more than that.

If I remember you must format in fat 32 not NTSF.

I don't know which board you have, but wait until the Gigabyte load screen appears and press F12. That should be the 1 time boot menu. If it is a different key, it should tell you on the gigabyte loading screen. Get to the boot menu and select your USB key or the CD/DVD whichever memtest is installed on.

My USB stick is formatted for FAT32. I put USB-HDD at the top of the list (and I see the flash drive fashing during bootup) but it just boots into windows.

I've tried burning the ISO version to a writable DVD like 3 times with the Windows Disc Burner, but it always hands in DOS at the Loading......... part.

Can anyone help me?

I assume he means that the disk is recognized, the boot from the optical drive starts, and the first part of the process - Loading data into RAM - is where it freezes. Harrisonpink will correct me if I am wrong, right?

I wonder if it makes any difference whether you use a CD-R or a DVD-R for memtest. I wouldn't know, because I am way too cheap to ever use a DVD to burn such a small file.

Have you downloaded the latest version? Try downloading ver 4.20 and use the one that says auto installer for USB Key-NEW!

TVeblen you are correct. The DVD-R is recognized, it begins to load and then never starts up.

essenbe, I've tried both the latest ISO and the latest usb installer zip.

Well, let's look at this another way. Perhaps your 'memory issues' are to blame.
Can you try your DVD and/or USB stick on another PC?
