Is it a seagate disk? Use seatools bootable CD to diagnose the physical disk.
Western digital has a diagnostics tool as well. Post results
It's Western Digital. I'll look for the diagnostic tool. Btw, thanks for spending the time to help me. Really appreciate it.

PQSERVICE partition isn't working as well as far as I know. You get a bsod when trying to boot from it. Correct?
You have a win7 ultimate install dvd? And a valid product key? I think you have lost C. If you are clean reinstalling.... delete PQSERVICE partition first with partition wizard. What's on the 3GB partition? Maybe you can delete that as well. Extent DATA afterwards.

This is a case where some system specs, at least an Acer model number, would be very helpful.

In Post #4 I see that you have 2 Disks. This leads me to wonder if your particular laptop has a mini PCIe SSD installed.

This would be important because if it does then the mpSSD and the C: (OS) drive work together like a RAID array. And that could make a lot of difference in how you proceed.

Disk 2 is just 8GB and FAT32. Most likely a usb stick.

I don't know how to create an usb bootable MiniTool Power Data Recovery stick

I think I'll do a clean reinstall eventually. But before that, I am hoping to be able to recover my files from C.

    Me neither.

You are probably right though. I thought that might explain why the recovery methods were not working. But it is probably just a USB stick.

My system is a laptop, Acer Aspire 4920G. Disk 2 is actually the USB drive from which I booted MiniTool Partition Wizard.

Testdisk is the tool (maybe the best) for finding/recovering partitions. Most of them can do a quick and full scan (called deep scan in test disk). Some tools can even find files in unallocated space!! You can search yourself on google or make a new thread.

    • most likely testdisk didn't find it and updated the partion table, so i't's unallocated now. Or it was already... I don't know.
    • Who did delete/corrupt the NTFS structures on partition.... I don't know. Testdisk and Partition Wizard didn't do it.
Try some hardware disk diagnostics tools (like seatools for seagate disks). To prove disk is still healthy

My laptop uses a Western Digital internal drive. There is a diagnostics tool called WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic. However, it needs to be run from Windows or from a DOS bootable diskette. I have no diskette or diskette drives. So it looks like I may have to take out the hard drive and attach it to another computer via an adapter.

    You don't have a CD/DVD drive?
