Hello CM Mate I don' think you are going to make that CPU speed mate as the CPU support on that boards site http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?DetailID=719&MenuID=1&LanID=0

only lists up to that 2.93Ghz dual core the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 (B2) now having spent a bit of time rehashing such machines some of these older cores can be quite hard to find and expensive at that I recently tried to find Q5500 quad and it was more than a current i7!

Personally that E4700 looks the go for what you want.

Can you load up a few of the machines specs too mate as it would be good to see what you currently have CPU, RAM, and drive wise too.

Plus going to larger and better things you might have to look at testing the PSU to see if it will cope!

    But specs first ok?:)
The BIOS and stuff can be sorted once the hardware is sorted.

I kinda figured that it would be irrelavent but anyways here are my specs

RAM: 2GB (max the bord supports)

    Current CPU: Intel celeron D 360 3.46Ghz

    Graphics: Intel 945g on-bord chipset

    PSU: 160w supply

    HDD:1x SATA 180gb, 1x ATA 40gb

    Sound: C-media 6ch surround sound

    Network: Linksys wireless G

Anything else just ask and I'll try and post them up...

Crikey CM you are a bit hamstrung by the RAM being just 2GB and DDR2 at that and that PSU is sorta on the small side really.

That CPU I quoted mate is a dual core and has a much better L2 cache as you can see from the specs
    ARK | Intel® Celeron® D Processor 360 (512K Cache, 3.46 GHz, 533 MHz FSB) < the one you have and

    ARK | Intel® Core

This is a list of the CPUs it supports ECS Web Site > 945GCT-M3 (V3.0)

To be brutally honest I think the dual core CPU is just about the only thing you can update my friend. I wish I could help you more.

I'd guess that the Core 2 Duo E6700 is better than the E4700, because of its larger (yet) cache.

    ARK | Intel® Core

I think I'd have to go to eBay to find them at a tolerable price. (Probably removed from equipment, but CPUs don't age in practice.)

Whether it'd be a worthwhile upgrade at the system level for A Celeron D360, I don't know. Adding an SSD would probably make a bigger improvement in the apparent quickness of the PC, but a 120 to 128GB SSD still goes for around $100.

I recently got 2 E6600`s off ebay, niether was over $25.00 , you could easily get a 6700 for a few dollars more.

Has Icit2lol rightly pointed out that PSU is very weak indeed. I just did a quick PSU calculation with the basic specs you gave and it come out near to 200W.

All i am saying is that if you do intend to stick with that motherboard and to try and upgrade your CPU. I can't stress enough how much you would need to get a better quality PSU and one at least 350-400W. If the PSU goes, it will a lot of the time take something else out with it.

Hope you get something sorted so good luck with it

One thing to consider, that motherboard may have been made by ECS but it is likely customized for emachines. Most certainly the bios is, and that is unlikely to have anywhere near the CPU of the reference ECS board.

Ya, the 1 I mentioned has a FSB of 1066 and would be a waste on your board, if it even ran.

If you`re good, mark the thread solved. :)
