Acer AO255...keyboard letters and numbers won`t function.

Hi...I have an Acer AO255 netbook...it functions well aside from a problem with some numbers (4,6,8,0) and some letters (p and a capital V) that do not work...also number 6 is constantly in a connected state (not physically depressed but typing away in any space available)...it`s not the leyboard itself that needs changing but something inside that I figure is somehow stuck and causing a constant connection of the number 6...the other letters and numbers that are not working are at times intermittently working but in the main not !

It is not the keyboard itself that is malfuntioning as the number 6 is merrily typing away even when the keyboard is disconnected...anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing this please ?

The Acer itself works fine...it`s just this key/number thing...I don`t use it now as I have other laptops to use but when I have used it,it`s easy enough to browse etc...but you can imagine the difficulty when needing to type ! ...I have a feeling a connection is stuck but don`t know what or where to look to check.

Thanks,

I'd bet the keyboard itself is defective.

It`s the same when the keyboard is taken away...the number 6 is logging itself constantly...I`m not very knowledgeable regards this but why does the number keep logging when the keyboard is not even attached ? You don`t think some connection is maybe crossing over or stuck ?

Does it happen if you boot to Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking?

I finally found time to check this out...the problem with the numbers and letters is the same when booting in Safe Mode.

There is the problem with the number 6 continually logging itself...once it is over-ridden the other keyboard letters and numbers are able to be used normally...aside from those that do not work due to this problem that I mentioned..ie,several numbers and letters do not work.

I am not a computer expert but my feeling is that something has got stuck...a ribbon or connection...and if I knew what to dis-connect etc then I may be able to "clean" it and get it working as it should...are there any videos of how to dis-connect some of the relevant ribbons/connections or even what are the likely ribbons/connections I can look at ? ... as I mentioned, this occurs whether the keyboard is connected or not,so it must be a connector I feel.

I have several laptops that I use (family use) and this one is/was used as a spare...it would be handy to get it back to working correctly...at present,I use a letter and number pad that I made in Notepad and any time I need a number/letter I copy and paste it...which takes a lot of time !!!

How can you disconnect a keyboard from a Netbook, it's built in. Are you talking about an external USB keyboard or bluetooth keyboard?

The problem is most likely with the built in keyboard.

I am really sorry to come across like this but have you not read the post ?

The keyboard has been disconnected from the internal ribbon connection...how ? ...by taking the keypad/keyboard off of the laptop etc blah blah...the keyboard is disconnected and the problem is nothing to do with the keyboard itself...the problem is as stated in the earlier post.

In fact this is the second time you have said the same thing when I have said that the keyboard has been disconnected ! ...have you never changed a keyboard etc yourself by taking things apart and changing an item ?

You could try this: Puppy on USB pen drive

See if the problem still occurs. If yes then it's hardware, most likely the mother board. If not, then backup your data and reinstall the OS and that should fix it.
