Is it possible to use a usb cord with a 12v case fan?

    Is it possible to use a usb cord with a 12v case fan?


    I want to connect a 12v 3 / 4 pin case fan with a usb cord. I know that it's possible with lower voltage.

    Here's an adapter for 4-pin to usb:

    You only get 5 volts from USB Header. What plug do you have on the fan?

    5v is iffy for running fans. Many, if not most, need at least 7v to run.

    Well even if it did run on 5v the question is then what sort of current are you going to be pulling with any particular fan? But as Lady says fairly slim chance of it running on 5v and even 7v.
