    upgrading my motherboard


    hi i what to upgrade my motherboard to an Asus Sabertooth X79 Asus Sabertooth X79 Motherboard (Socket 2011, Intel X79, DDR3, ATX, PCI Express 3.0, USB 3.0, Thermal Armor, ASUS SSD Caching): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories it does not matter what motherboard i have at the moment i dont know if my cpu will fit my new motherboard this is what cpu i got i think Intel BX80580Q8300 Q8300 Core 2 Quad Processor - 2.50 GHz,4MB Cache,1333MHz FSB,Socket LGA775,45 nm,3 Year Warranty,Retail Boxed: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories and if it does fit do i need to reinstall windows 7

    No, this CPU is not compatible. You will need a CPU that is socket 2011. Your current CPU is socket 775.

    Is your copy of Windows 7 OEM, or Retail?

    ok thanks i dont know if its oem or retail the disc came with my dell pc in a paper sleeve

    Then it's OEM, and this means that you'll have to buy a new copy of Windows 7.

    ok is it better to buy oem or retail i know oem is like £70 and retail is like £200

    That's entirely up to you. If you buy OEM, then you will have to buy another copy of Windows again the next time you replace your motherboard. If you buy Retail, then you won't have to worry about it.
