touchpad on asus laptop stopped working

    Hi there,

Yesterday my touchpad just stopped working, although a external USB mouse does. I have restore my computer to an earlier point, ran a virus scan and uninstalled and then re-installed the synaptics driver. It still isn't working and I'm not really sure what to try next.

    Thanks
    Vicky

    Welcome to the forums!
Yes , as ICit2lol said, some spec.'s would help a lot. The touchpads on Asus machines are notoriously cranky/bad. ( I love my Asus G74Sx so not slamming Asus) On any given day theres at least 2 or more issues with them on their RoG forum. Mine was so ...... out of whack..... that I just disabled it in bios. I know this isn't an option for all though. Asus uses two different brands of touchpad, please excuse me for asking this, but did you get the driver for the right one?

You could also try a sfc/scannow to double check the integrity of system files, though I doubt that thats your problem. (heres a link to a tutorial on how to do that.) :SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

I really don't recommend Asus's forums either, their customer service is the absolute worst I've ever encountered. (RoG forums are a little better but not much) Their "solution" to 98% of problems is to RMA your machine.

I just got a new ASUS laptop. Weird things happen now and then but I think that has to do with it supporting gestures and my lazy fingers. Anyway one thing I did notice is it has an option to automatically disable it if a USB mouse is detected. It sounds like yours quit before you connected the mouse but it couldn't hurt to check to make sure that option isn't enabled if it has it. If it is it will never work as long as the mouse is plugged in. For me that setting is in the ASUS Smart Gestures utility located in the Notifications area.

On the ASUS customer service sucking.

Hah sorryy alpha I thought we were talking laptop saw a store yesterday selling one at half price and that had a key pad that had gone south in fact had come off but....

Now I am thinking maybe it is the keyboard mate they come as do the mice these days with so much software on them. So any chance of try another KB instead? even cheapy would suffice.

Another little trick I use is an older PS/2 type KB when I can't get the USB type to work. It sometime s "frees" up the machine or at least lets you put right being able to use a KB. :)

A laptop with a broken keyboard at half price makes me think it was a "Demonstration model". I'd be wondering how the keyboard got broken, was it dropped, something dropped on it? To me it sounds like a risky purchase even at half price.

Absolutely alpha I would not have given them $50 for it as the new keypad if you could fin one would be worth a fortuen you could put moneyy on that.

The problem was the plastic pad was completely off the microswitch and it didn't spring back it ws permanently jammed in. I guess with a bit of teasing out I could have fixed it but what they wanted for it no way!!

Shame cos it has an i7 and 8GB a 1TB and 7 on it

I just bought an ASUS K75DE, AMD A-10 4600M. I'm usually on such a tight budget that I could never afford something like that and could only wish to own one. We just recently came into some unexpected money and for once in a long time I treated myself to a new tech toy.

Hard to say? They may have fixed it and just forgot to post back. Or don't feel the need to post back. If they don't frequent forums they may not realize that they left us hanging. It could also be that something else came up that was more important.
