    Standalone monitor wont work

    howdy

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop. I have just reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7.

I have a BenQ monitor plugged into it via VGA and that used to work fine before.

Now ever since the system has been reinstalled the monitor wont work

    thanks

When you click the Detect button on Screen Resolution Tool, does it not find the display?

Can you look in the device manager and tell us if there are any issues reported there.

Also, do you have any software that came with the monitor? installing a driver might fix it.

in device manager I think all is good. No device problems under the monitor listing. The only problem in all the devices is in a listing a couple of lines down from Monitors and the listing calls itself Other devices. It apparently has an uninstalled driver or something. Cant seem to find one with the web search option,

Monitor only comes with user manual on CD, no driver there

Have you installed the chipset and updated video drivers yet?

the laptop never had chip set or graphic driver disks. This is a fresh install with a windows 7 disk. Any drivers have been picked up along the way.

I've managed to fix it. Went to hewart Packard web site. Found a scan for yor product option. did that and it found I was missing a high definition graphics driver. Downloaded and installed that and now it works. Thanks

I'm glad the issue was only video drivers.

    The more you know.
