Windows 7: Looking to Upgrade to a New SSD

Hello Again. i have turned off Both page file and Hibernation as per WHS...

The command is powercfg -h off. Same for the pagefile. With 8GB of RAM, it will probably hardly ever be used. That's why I recommend to reduce it to 1GB. If you do these 2 actions, you save 15GB of space on your SSD. You can do that before you migrate your OS to the SSD or after.[/QUOTE]

I have also downloaded the ATTO Disk Benchmark Software...............i will not reboot untill tomorrow... hopefully my next post will be from the SSD. i would like to thank WHS and others for all their help.

Hello Again... this post is brought to you from my New SSD. been a very interesting morning .. LOL, well i booted up into windows from my SSD Drive. I had to choose the SSD from the BIOS to boot up from.
All went well. See Attachments.

(UNTIL)

So i went back to the BIOS and checked to see if the SSD was there, it was, but it was in the advanced mode of the BIOS. So i just let the machine boot up. It booted up with the HDD and not the SSD, so i then disconnected the HDD, and rebooted, the SSD booted up to the windows Login Screen, but for some reason it would not go to the Desktop. ( not panicking yet LOL )

So i Re attached the HDD and windows wanted me to so a System repair. OK. so i ran the System repair and it was unable to repair the HDD. ( Getting a lil antsy now LOL ). ok so i disconnected the HDD and rebooted With the SSD.... and here i am...... i just completed a Image of the SSD....

I have a few questions about the SSD while i am still here ... as you can see from the Attachments,

1 Samsung magic says should check for a firmware upgrade ?
2 Also what the best Optimization for the SSD ? max performance, max capacity. max readability ?
3 Trim ?. how do i know its set up right ?
4 i understand you should not defrag the SSD ?, how do i turn of defrag

I guess i am going to have to do another Reinstall on the HDD ? unless someone know of a FIX ? ( WHS )

Thanks

1. I would not update the firmware unless there is a known problem

2. Max performance sounds best. That must be something Samsung. I have never seen that before

3. For Trim, do this:

Open Command Prompt (Run as administrator) and enter the follow command

fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify

If the result is '0' TRIM is enabled.

4. put defrag into start/search and go from there

Like whs said.....you are probably good on the firmware. I have the same options in Samsung Magician and I would configure them manually rather than use pre-configured templates. When you install an SSD in a computer running Windows 7, it automatically turns off the disk defragmenter for THAT drive. It will still automatically defragment mechanical hard drives though.

That is definitely true when you make a fresh install on the SSD. The installer will turn defrag off. But I am not sure whether that would apply when you move the OS with an image to the SSD. I never checked that.

I think I read in another post a while back that it will detect the SSD in either situation, but I cannot say that as a fact..........glad you brought that up, maybe someone else will chime in and let us know.

I used Paragon Migrate a few days ago and the answer is No, it does not turn off Defragment to the SSD. It does, list it 1st in the order to defrag.

I turned off the scheduled defragment option.
