Hi there, I'm not sure what all that means but I would just like to say that it's not installed using the original Vista recovery partition with the original factory pre-installed O/S, it is running a clean version of Windows 7 Home Premium (not the original O/S)

I can't believe how stuck I am on something which should be so simple!

That may be true but you should still have the recovery disk for windows vista.

If you put the vista recovery disk in your drive it will have the files you need.

(You may need to do some exploring to find it though)

Going to C:\Utils only works if they haven't formatted there whole drive witch it sounds like he did.

If there is no recovery partition and if there is no recovery disks, then accept the paths that were taken. Shop around for PowerDVD or Corel WinDVD BD. Of course, there are other alternatives. If the life and utility of this Sony VAIO can be extended, that would be the way to go.

The files are right there on Sony's support website. Download the original ones and the Windows 7 update. Install all the original software you would like. Then apply the updated software and then you will be good to go.

Sorry do you mean to install all of the original drivers and utilities (originally made for Vista) and then install the updates?

If so we've installed all the pre-installed drivers and utilities on the Sony Vaio download page first but he still can't get it to install the WinDVD as it just says needs the previous version.

Please can you point me in the right direction as to what specific file needs to be downloaded in order for us to install this file.

I am sorry to keep asking but I just want to get it working and so far we aren't having any luck what so ever!! !!

    Preinstalled Drivers and Utilities

This section contains all drivers and base utilities which come preinstalled on the VAIO. These can be used to reinstall a corrupted driver, or if you want to install your own OS.
We strive to make these available for every VAIO model.

Please take note that your original drivers can also be located on your hard disk, typically in folder C:\Windows\Drivers or C:\Drivers. On older models you may find them on the recovery discs.

Note 1: it is not possible to provide support for these drivers.
Note 2: we are not allowed to publish original installers for 3rd party applications in this section. The drivers and utilities we publish are meant to make your VAIO function correctly; not to recreate the original preinstalled environment.

Found that buried in the small print.

Hi there, the last couple of posts seem to have completely vanished????

I was just asking my friend to have a look at the list of downloads you gave me and he was saying that he couldn't find it, as soon as I refreshed the page it had vanished, along with my post before it.

What's going on, just as I thought we were getting somewhere the posts disappear!!

I really need that list of downloads back again.

I am afraid they do not give you the BD Player original file, only updates which check for the original file. If you don't have it won't install

    Sony : VGN-FZ21Z updates | Download updates for VGN FZ21Z | VGNFZ21Z

    Then
    Windows VistaApplication / Utility

    Followed by

    Windows 7Application / Utility
