Unable to install a driver for a USB Sentinel dongle
I have purchased a software which runs with a dongle. Tried to install it and it failed. Called the support and had a tech trying to solve it without success (over 4 hours on the phone). The driver I try to install is "Sentinel System Driver Installer 7.5.8" or the whole bundle "Sentinel Protection Installer 7.6.6".
I have tried everything. Deleted everything related to Sentinel or SafeNet in the registry. The tech downloaded his driver on my machine and it did not work.
When I try to install the driver only, I get the message "The configuration data for this product is corrupt. Contact your support personnel."
When I try to install the bundle, I get the message "Error 1714.The older version of Sentinel Protection Installer 7.6.6 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group." This message seems to be misleading as there should be no need for a previous version to be installed. At least this is what the tech from SafeNet said to me.
At the beginning the administrator had no rights on the folders Windows and Program Files. This had been resolved. The tech thought that would be the reason for the install to fail.
Copying the driver "SNTNLUSB.SYS" into c:windows/System32/drivers seems not to be the right solution. Somehow the driver needs to be registered, but I don't know how.
At least I am stuck at the moment and don't know what to do. There must be a solution for this.
