Windows 7: "Miraculous" HDD recovery

"Miraculous" HDD recovery

Hi all,

I had some problems lately with one of my HDDs ("Current Pending Sector Count" = 1) and nothing seamed to fix it so I had to clone it & replace it.
HDD dying - problems cloning

However, after I replaced it, I deleted everything on that HDD, including the partitions, formated as NTFS and ran a full Check Disk test, from within Windows.
After the test, every app I used stopped reporting errors or warnings and "Current Pending Sector Count" was back to 0.

So here is my question, can I trust this HDD now? I thought that was a hardware error and as far as I know something like this cannot be fixed using software methods.

Win7 Pro 32bit; Zorin OS 9 Core (in VM)

A very good question. I have a 320GB IDE drive that seemed to lose files. I 7-pass erased it with Eraser and it passed chkdsk /r and Seagate's SeaTools tests with zero errors. It's a shame to let it sit unused if it's still good.

In my case SeaTools and WinDLG didn't show anything. Same thing happened in the past with other HDD that were actually dying and Crystal Disk Info, Acronis Drive Monitor & Windows were reporting this.

I also heard about someone with the same problem as mine: the HDD was reporting errors under Current Pending Sector Count, he cloned it, erased everything on it and the problems were gone.

Changing the "minimize" "maximize" and "close" buttons of a theme
Ok so I'm using a custom visual style made by another user however I don't really like the buttons used that I mentioned above. The creator states it is acceptable to change the theme to however you like as long as you don't redistribute it anywhere. Ok so I opened up the .msstyles file (using...

"Windows failed to start..." Recovery disk is unable to recover Win.
Hi all. Earlier today I was playing around with Windows 8 Developer Preview inside of Virtualbox. I tried to install the VB guest additions (which allows copy-paste between guest and host, as well as other things) and was told to restart the computer. So I restarted the VM and got the new version...
