Are you right-clicking the area you have circled? Specifically, right on that little red down arrow?

Is it a 3tb? If so, when you get to initialize, use GPT instead of MBR.

You haven't answered the question about right-clicking the little red arrow, which should start the process of initializing a simple volume.

    Hi efosamy,

There is one "Disk 1 Removable No media" in your screenshot. What is it?

Can you please remove it and then try to initialise your ext. HDD?

It is always better to have only the problem device connected when we want to troubleshoot.

Next, have you tried connecting your ext. HDD on another PC? And what results?

Also is it a new one or has it been used before?

I did what You asked...I have removed the removable No media...It is a card reader but has no Card to read... also I have tried to connect the drive to another but there was no it was not powering up.

My Passport external drive is an old one. I was scanning it for bad sectors when it was removed from the PC by my brother.

I can't believe that on your computer it shows up in Disk Management - though as not initialised - but does not powerup at all on another PC. Are you sure? Did you try on all the ports in that computer?

Does it still show up in Disk Management on your PC?

Check whether it shows up in the Device Manager and what it says on the General Tab on the Properties. ( Right click on the drive in Device Manager, and Properties.)

Perhaps you should now run the Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows and check the status of your drive http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=612&sid=2&lang=en

Follow the instructions on the website.

If your drive passes the test you can write zeroes and initialise it to factory condition. You may have to do a regular format if successful.

Note: Zero writing will completely wipe of all data in your drive. Do this only if you have no data that you would like to recover.

Yes I have done all that you have asked me to do.... I have connected the device to another computer and tried connecting to all the ports but its still showing the same not initializing.

I think the Drive is damaged

    what do you think?
    Please..
