Windows does not detect any external media.

Windows 7 will not detect ANY external media, if I plug something into a USB port nothing will even show up on the "My Computer" screen, and the same goes for any disks I put in my disk drive (it still acknowledges the existence of my USB mouse and keyboard however), I have tried with multiple devices and disks, even my disk image mounting program (Daemon Tools) doesn't work.

    Hi walale12,

    Welcome onboard.

    1. Were these external media detected before and this happened all of a sudden?

    2. Can you correlate anything you did/that happened on your PC after which this happened? For example any new software installation/updates?

    3. Can you restore your system back to a point when you installed Daemon Tools? ( I have always viewed Daemon Tools with scorn :). As I understand from many User Reports, it can create a lot of problems. Is it the cause in your case, I am wondering.)

They were, I first noticed when I was trying to plug in my phone (SIII), for some reason, it wouldn't detect it, nor could I hear the "Device Connect" sound effect, I then tried to put in a disc (with no marks on the bottom), I could hear the drive reading it, but it wouldn't autorun, nor would I be able to see it in My Computer.
The only things that happened before this problem were a Steam update and definitions updates for Malwarebytes and avast.
All my system restore points are after the installation of Daemon tools, and nothing happened with it just before the problem arose.

OK, You have given sufficient info (atleast for me.). Let us wait and see if someone comes up with their ideas on it. ( I have none at the moment once you said Daemon had been behaving well for you :) though I shall keep scratching on it off and on.)
