    i5 - 3570k vs i7 - 3770k in terms of gaming?

ive been recently trying to decide on some parts for a new pc im building and just cant decide between these two, although im only using them for gaming, does the 100 dollar difference really make a change in terms of gaming? is it really worth it?

For gaming I would say go with the I5. The I7 is better for more intensive operations and has hyperthreading but holds no advantage for gaming. Save the hundred dollars an buy a good cooler so you can overclock the I5, or use it towards a better graphic card.

Unless you do alot of of heavily threaded apps (such as CPU based HD video encoding) , NO.

For a Pc that will be used for gaming and general use only, its $100 that would be better spent elsewhere, such as on a more powerful GPU.

If on the other handing you do alot of video encoding, 3D rendering etc (or any work that requires heavily threaded apps) then the i7 will run circles around the i5 in that situation and is $100 well spent.
Few actually have the need or will make use of it though.

I agree with Dude. I have/have owned both. The i5 will do anything the i7 will do in gaming and some things even better. There are few, if any games out that will use more than 2 cores. The hyperthreading is of no use or advantage. As Dude said, save the money and put it towards a new graphics card which will help you in gaming. You're going to need a good cooler in either case, especially if you plan to overclock it.

Another vote for the i5-3570K. It will game as good, if not a shade better in some games than the 3770K. Save the $100 and get a nice closed loop water cooler so you can OC the snot out of it, or buy a better graphics card, or SSD......whatever you need. All the posts above are right on the money.

Just like everyone else said, I would go with the i5-3570K. The i7 won't really make a difference when it comes to gaming and you can put the extra money to something that will.
