    Hi roryson welcome to SevenForums

If you're just upgrading the CPU you will not need to reinstall Windows. Just like if you were going to replace the memory.

    Hi roryson,

In addition to what VistaKing said, you mostly require windows re-installation if you are replacing hard-drive of the system. As Windows is installed on the hard-drive.

Except, hard-drive it is least likely you would require re-installation for any part replacement on the system.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Make sure you have the latest bios version for your motherboard so it correctly supports your new CPU.

    Phenom IIX4 965 (HDZ965FBK4DGI),3.4GHz,140W,rev.C2,SocketAM3,Quad-Core
    Since PCB 1.02G
    Since Bios
    1004

    Phenom IIX4 965 (HDZ965FBK4DGM),3.4GHz,125W,rev.C3,SocketAM3,Quad-Core
Since PCB 1.02G Since Bios 1102

    ASUS - M4N78 PRO
1303 looks like the latest. Flash your bios and reset to defaults then replace the CPU (just in case)

No you are fine, you will have a later board. Just erring on the side of caution, nothing worse than sticking the new cpu in and it won't boot or runs at 800Mhz due to not being supported in the bios.
