4000 Bad Sectors, Seagate Barracuda 1TB

My hard drive has been making sort of scratching sound recently, like if you had some dirt or something in the HD.

I started HD sentinel and this is the report

I take it my drive is failing?
422 days does not seem a lot.

I think I would run SeaTools, Seagate's diagnostic program. If it were me I would already be backing up my personal data. If that report is correct, it seems your drive is failing or has failed just hasn't realized it yet.

I am sorry to say, but if that report is accurate, your hard drive is on its last legs and should be replaced. I don't think a low level format would even help at this stage

Call Seagate, they might replace it. Couldn`t hurt to try.

Do this, after backing up to some different drive. They have a 2 year warranty now but maybe your was purchased under their former policy, 5 years maybe. They could tell you based on the drive's serial number.
