Exernal monitor came up with notebook closed so couldn't use keyboard.

Asus K60ij running Windows 7 and Google Chrome
    Intel Premium Dual Core T4300
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500m

Wondering why Im not getting any help when all of the other posts that Ive read before posting got help within hours? Sorry for the bad grammar on subject line but had trouble posting from my phone & couldnt edit that part. I really need to get this resolved so can anyone please help?

I started out trying to figure out cause of problems with getting a black screen when windows 7 loads....(windows logo comes up, then spinning currsor, loading chimes played, then black screen with backlight only). I suspect may have been caused by installing Sketch-up 8 (3d software formerly by google but now Trimble) or a possible Windows update.

I was able to plug in an external VGA monitor which WAS working fine, and using it to research what could be causing this problem as time allowed.

I read to lower display settings resolution so did that and changed to 256 colors....That didnt work so booted again to the external monitor to see if the settings stuck and noticed that, for some dumb reason, I guess I changed the setting to make the external monitor the primary default monitor. I went back into display settings to try to switch it back to the notebooks lcd but it didnt show up anymore when I clicked the dropdown....At that point, I had to leave for work. When I got home I think it was shutdown if I recall right.

The next time I started up... neither screen came up......after googling that for about a good half hour in frustration, I shut the laptop lid and thats when the external monitor came up! Apparently a power mgmnt setting that tells what to do when lid is closed?? Unfortunately, that left me with nothing else to do since, even with it cracked open enough to get my hand in, the keyboard didnt respond. More googling, anger....force close by holding down power button for 4 seconds.

Tried to restart after that without external monitor, assuming that would allow keyboard to work again, hoping to go in safe mode to see if lcd would work, but got nothing....Didnt even see windows start like I usually did....I had to leave for work again so gave up, thinking that unplugging the vga monitor didnt cause things to revert back to notebooks like Id hoped. I stopped on way home and bought a usb keyboard hoping to get contol again so I could get back on external monitor to updated video drivers since I am 90% sure that is a big part of the problem with the notebooks LCD not working....(My last notes show version 8.15.10.2302 dated 2-11-11...I had called early on in my troubleshooting when the black screen issue began and girl at Asus remotely updated my driver but think she may have chosen the 32 bit when this is a 64 bit).

Anyway....When I tried to restart today hoping to use the usb keyboard to regain access while using external monitor, I hit the powerbutton, then FN F8 to boot to extenal again, now I only see what may have been an old background image that had been used showing up on the external monitor, not the one that was showing up when I had the external working right!....Nothing else is showing up...no desktop icons, etc. Didn't see the "windows is starting" or "windows resuming" either! The only indicator light on the front that is lit is the power indicator which is lit green and solid...battery indicator and cpu indicators are dark.
Please help! She really needs this back but instead of getting this closer to fixed, I'm getting further away! I have tried to attach manual if that helps!
