Is this ridiculous laptop fan noise normal?

Hey guys! First post here I hope this is the right area...

But anyhoo I bought a Sony Vaio SVS151190x laptop

It is awesome! It has 12 gigs of ram a hybrid gpu (it has a intel 4000 and a nvidia gt 640mle)

My question is it is quiet on stamina mode (intel) but when I switch to speed mode it gets loud.

And I mean LOUD. I understand it is doing heavier tasks like gaming but it gets to the point where it sounds like it is going to blow up :/

It functions very well in this state but is alarming loud...

Any way to minimize the loudness but still keep the power?

Cooling a high powered laptop is not easy. There is no room for big blowers so the little blower has to work extra hard. The more muscle you have in your system the louder it gets.

I would not worry about it. Apart from the annoyance there is probably nothing wrong with it. But if the Vaio is still under warrenty, you can call Sony and ask them to check it out. They come to the house - at least that's what they did when there was a problem with my Vaio.

Btw: for gaming you would do better with a desktop. There are many options to cool them and keep them quiet.

Yeah, eventually I am going to get a desktop but for now I am stuck with this...It is a great laptop though I can max ou battlefield 3 (turn down antialiasing a bit) and runn at 1600x900 res at 50-60 fps. It's pretty good. Considering I don't game much anyway. The time it arises is when doing video editing.

Video editing is extremely demanding on the CPU. Even my desktop i7 (which has a lot more muscle than a laptop i7) runs at nearly maximum with all 8 cores when I am editing videos. That produces some real heat. I am sure your Vaio can double up as a grill. LOL

What is truly remarkable is the vaio hardly gets hot. It is just crazy loud.

    :/

Well, then the fan does a good job. It could be worse if it ran hot. The fix may be a couple of earplugs or listen to music with earphones.
