    Laptop always showing errors on install

    I recently acquired a Toshiba A200-1V0 laptop from my sister (it was taken apart to be looked at by someone she knew) and whenever I try to install an operating system (Windows 7) I continuously get errors regarding the partition, not being able to format, or installation hang.

    At first I thought it was a faulty hard drive, so I ran a live version of Ubuntu 12.10 on a USB to boot and install. It installed with a couple of errors. I then used gparted to remove the partition and change the FS to NTFS.

    I then ran windows 7 via USB as the CD drive seems to struggle to read disks properly and got to the installation window where I could choose which partition to install on to. Usually when I attempt to format using the Win 7 disk, I get a partition error.

    I tried using the command prompt from the Win 7 recovery options and used the following commands:

    Diskpart
    List disk
    Select disk (n)
    Create partition primary
    Select partition 1
    Active
    Clean all
    Format=NTFS

    During the format I got a parameter error and was unable to finish the format. When I tried using chkdsk, I was given no bad sectors.

    I tried using DBAN to nuke the hdd and was spammed with errors and unexpected handles.

    I also used memtest and was also given no memory errors so I'm stumped...

    Should I replace the HDD, the RAM or something else worth trying?
