hp xw6200 Win 7 Pro 54 bit 2nd SATA hard drive connection

    Hello :)

I wish to connect a second hard drive to my XW6200. Last Tuesday a friend gave me the connection procedure:

"The hp manual shows you can have 2 Serial ATA Sata drives. See the manual.
Refer to pg 69 item 19 and 20 for the Sata data headers. Refer to pg 100
    for the hard drive bay.
The PSU has 2 Sata power leads, so all you need is a Sata data lead.
    Just mimic the existing lead."

Unfortunately, when I tried to put this into practice, I discovered that SATA item # 19 was being used by my CD/DVD drive
( It might be item # 20, I'm no longer sure). I would like to know what options I have now.

Would you recommend my adding a new PCI SATA add-on card?
Thank you very much for your help.

    All the best,

    Boyard

You could do that, or you could get an IDE Optical drive and connect it to 12 or 14. Or you can get an adapter like this StarTech IDE2SAT25 StarTech.com 40 Pin Female IDE to SATA Adapter Converter

If using an adapter, use it on the optical drive for minimal performance loss.
