Sorry i had to switch to dial-up According to you motherboard specs it supports the following

Up to 10 USB 2.0/1.1 ports (4 ports on the back panel, 6 ports available through the internal USB headers)
Up to 4 USB 3.0/2.0 ports (2 ports on the back panel, 2 ports available through the internal USB headers)

There is no cable plugged into it paul
Well that explains why the front usb 3 is not working then.
If this is a new, pre-built computer that you just bought then bring it/send it back to the place you got it and either have them fix it (connect the front panel ports to the motherboard header with a cable), or exchange it for a unit that is completely assembled.

If you are worried about your Windows setup or personal files, just have them switch the hard drives.

    Yeah thanks

Yeah thanks for your concern but i think i'll just stick to using the back ports for USB 3, if i want to fix up the front port, i'll get my techy friends to help me with it.

all as maxie and paul, thanks for your help (now marked as solved)
