Hard drive disk problem

Hey I've reformatted my drive not too long ago due to some driver problems and after a month later I got a hard drive disk problem message pop up. I'm not sure if my drive is failing or not but I downloaded both HDTune and CrystalDiskInfo to check. In HDTune, my (01) Raw Read Error Rate has a current of 97, worst of 5, Threshold of 51 and 5894 Data. It says number of hardware read errors: 5894 but CrystalDiskInfo says it's fine. I've ran sfc /scannow and there no integrity violations. What other checkups should I do?

Nornally when I see conflicting information about drive health I go the the Hard Drive Manu.'s site and use whatever tool they have available that runs outside of Windows, such as seatools for seagate drives. Just be careful not to run any destructive tests. Hope this helps, J

I tried looking for a tool for my Samsung HD103SI but I couldn't find anything and it kept directing me to seagate stuff. I ended up using seatools for windows and now it has failed Long Generic with 6C9AC2A4. I searched the error and it gave me - Serial Number not detected, SeaTools did fail the drive. I'm not sure if that's due to my hdd being Samsung or not. I'm not sure if I should proceed by downloading SeaTools for DOS to repair problem sectors so help would be appreciated, thanks.

a standard way to check hard drive integrity would be from windows's own check disk. don't forget to check the 'scan for and attempt recovery of bad sector' option before starting the check disk. the report will state if there's a bad sector on the disk or not.

STOP no I would not run seatools on a Samsung drive, I was only use it as an example. Sorry if my post mislead you. I have only run seatools on seagate drives.
I see what you mean about Samsung's site directing you to Seagate though !

I have not ran the SeaTool DOS for repairs yet only doing chkdsk stuff now but I can't seem to find anything for the Samsung HD103SI as their page keeps redirecting me to SeaGate stuff for hdd testing. I've only done the basic tests as SeaTool for Windows recognizes my hdd.

Well my chkdsk on C did fix some things but it still reads failed for (01) Raw Read Error Rate with a Current of 99, Worst at 5, Threshold at 51 and 5906 Data for on HDTune but good on CrystalDiskInfo.
Also in HDTune, for (C7) Interface CRC Error Count, it's highlighted in blue and status says attention. The current is 100 and worst is 100 with a threshold of 0 and Data at 1.

I don't know if posting that log helps but I'll try running basic tests on SeaTools again.

Edit - I just finished my SeaTools for windows basic tests again and it fails at Long Generic again with the error code of 6C9AC2A4.

This was the previous error I got when I ran SeaTools. I'm not sure if this is due to my hdd being from Samsung or not but I cannot find a manufacturer specific test tool as Samsung's site redirects me to SeaGate stuff. I suspect it's due to different companies as http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/s...est-codes.html states my code is due to the program not recognizing my serial #. If anyone can redirect me to a proper/better diagnostic tool I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I would continue to use the disk. But make image backups to an external. Macrium Reflect is a good choice for that.

Chkdsk has isolated the 8kb and relocated the data. At this point, the hd may just stay static like many I've seen.

You could install and run Acronis Drive Monitor once a week (it's free). It has a small footprint and shows its results quickly. You will get a disk health percentage. If it doesn't change week to week, you will be okay. If it drops below 75%, replace.

You've run CDI twice, and it doesn't report a major problem. This is a very decent utility.

I would agree with PSCowboy, but as I advise everyone I work with, backup any valuable data to an external device and do regular system images, unless you enjoy reinstalling windows.
