windows 7 cant detect external hard drive

    windows 7 cant detect external hard drive


    hello, im new here. ive a problem with my external hard disk. im using 64-bit windows 7 ultimate. and i have a imation hard disk (i dont remember any details about it tho). i still can hear the normal sound it produced but the problem is, it didnt show up in the 'my computer'

    help me please!

    Hi and welcome to the Forums ..... Does it show up in Device Manager or in Disk Management ? Have you tried using it in different ports?

    Is there some one else s computer that you could try the drive on? How long have you had the Drive ?....
    And when was the last time it worked ?

    as you are saying that it is making a sound, that means it is getting power. But, it is not showing up in disk management even. That can be an issue with the cable that you are using to connect or the port to which you are connecting to. Try a different cable. You have already tried ports.

    maxie : i already tried using other laptops but it didnt show up

    archer : i already tried a different cable. maybe the cable is broke?

    Let me share something that happened with me...I tried 5 cables and was not able to get the power on my external DVD player....So yes, the cable can be an issue.
