    External Hard Drive problem

When I connect my 1TB Buffalo MiniStation to my PC, -it does not show up on 'My computer'. The 'safely remove device' option is there. The device is also visible in Disk Management. I googled around for some time and the most common solution offered by others was to assign a drive letter to the drive. I tried doing that and got an error(see attached image). I have refreshed and restarted it several times. Same result.

This has been happening since I formatted my internal C: drive. And no, the external hard drive does not require additional firmware. It works properly on my other 2 laptops(windows 7 & 8).

    Help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a 3rd party partition manager tool? and made the drive ACTIVE?

Here's a free good one, as backup to the Win7 one: [It's what I use]

Active@ Partition Manager Free Download - Create Partition

Just today gave me in use message on an external drive, I rebooted as some other program was trying to make use of it, probably my auto-defrag tool, then I was able to change the letter.

Try that and if it still won't, try it in safe mode.

Thank you for your quick reply

I have AOMEI Partition assistant 5.2 which fulfils all my need regarding hard disks. I tried making the drive active but the option was greyed out. Tried it in safe mode, same results.

    Anything else I could try?
