Yeah, stupid work. I had too much time on my hands and money burning a hole in my pocket and a need for some new hardware...

Guys, I am in a dilemma, it hurts my feelings to spend 300 on an 80 gb drive, but the speeds of the x25-m G2 are Amazing...

    random read/write

sequential read/write (I'll put it in my HTPC as the OS... sequential write really only matters for the OS install)

but 300 dollars for 80 gigs...
Newegg.com - Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2MH080G2C1 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid state disk (SSD) - Solid State Disks

I really want it, so some positive reinforcement would be helpful.
In this same article he comes to the conclusion the Patriot Torqx is one of the best for a desktop. That's what I got. I love it.

I recently purchased an Intel X25-M G2 for $249 from mwave.com. The performance is fantastic. I considered the Torqx as well...but I'm a firm believer that the "overall" performance of the Intel makes it a better drive for my OS drive.

I have experienced no problems with my Intel drive. While concerned originally about only have 80GB...by time I moved my pagefile, disabled hibernation which I never used on my desktop and reduced the system protection amounts down to 2%...I'm running Win7 64-bit, with all my apps and a couple of games and I'm sitting at 53GB free. Of course, I am using a secondary data storage drive...and it's a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black.

Overall, I think the SSD is outstanding. And with having 2 drives in my box, I think that increased performance as well just having a secondary drive for my box to page to.

    That's where I'm torn at.

The Intel x25-M G2 is the fastest for random reading and writing, but the Patrior Torqx is faster for sequential reading and writing. Plus the torqx comes with a drive adapter to fit a 3.5" drive bay and has more space.

I suppose it depends on how you will be using it.

It also depends on if you want the best warranty in the business by a long shot (10 years)

While the Patriot does offer the 10 year warranty, the Intel warranty is still good at 3 years. Plus, if I had to guess which company would "most likely" still be in business in 10 years time, my money would be on Intel.

All in all, I don't think most people would really notice the difference between the drives...and even if they did...I'm not sure they would be disappointed in the performance that they were getting.

Nope, I do think it will be real noticable either. I think it's going to boil down to the price in the end.
