I have had great luck with the APC brand, pick one that has the number of protected outlets needed in your price range.

Cyber Power is also a good brand.

I use a 1500 APC model and it can run my system for almost 25 minutes or more if I shut down un-needed items. This is more then you wanted to spend but I feel is as low as you want to go to get some work done, save and shut down.

HDD recommendations
I'm looking to jump up to a 500GB or even a 640GB hard drive, and I was just wondering if some of you might share experience/make recommendations. It's to go in my Toshiba (see my specs), so obviously it has to be a laptop-sized (2.5-in.) drive. Thoughts?
