Is this non-USB keyboard useable with my laptop?

Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: HP Standard 104 key PS/2 Keyboard

I was thinking maybe only desktops might have the port that can support this type of keyboard?

There is no laptop out right now with a PS\2 port . That's an old port ( obsolete )

I've tried that in a couple of Girom's threads, and would like to see that too.

The link in his sig seems to be his replacement for the one that got stolen.

Here is a decent USB keyboard for about $10. I have this one on my system.

I'm using that right now. It is decent but I wanted a quieter keyboard.

OK, I thought you were looking for an inexpensive keyboard that would work on your system. Hope you find a quieter one as I have no clue for what to look for.
