Hi mohavepc,

I believe it is way to expensive to get it fixed through manufacturer. You can get a cheaper motherboard as replacement here:

Gateway NV50A02U NV50A10U eMachines E422 Laptop Motherboard MB R4602 001 8243 | eBay

You can try hooking it up with an external monitor as suggested by PooMan UK. However, if the system does not complete POST it is unlikely that you get a display on external monitor.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

I agree with you Sandeep, I found two compatible mobo's on eBay but the on you have is not compatible with this machine. and external monitor will make no difference as it will not post but you know I'll try it anyhow. What do I got to lose? There is a circuit built into the external vga port that will bypass the sleep switch if the bios recognizes the external monitor correctly. I'll let you know if it works.

Looks like a motherboard. I believe the switch is still at fault but I cannot find it and I believe the switch itself may be integrated into the mobo. I will talk to the customer shortly and see what they want to do. May be a loss for me but gotta take the good with the bad I suppose.

Hi mohavepc,

It is a possibility that a switch might be integrated to the motherboard only. If you have happen to replace the motherboard of the system do let us know the results of the same.

If you have any queries in future, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks again Sandeep it seems that the switch is indeed integrated. Gateway confirmed that the only fix is to replace the mobo. Seems that there are issues with this design model. Customer reports that it was a "Cheap" machine to begin with and they got 1.5 years out of a $300.00 machine. Sending back the new LCD now and hopefully will get a refund or at least credit.

Thanks again for trying to help.

Hi mohavepc,

I understand even manufacturer has confirmed that switch is integrated to the motherboard. I hope you either get the refund or credit for returning the LCD you tried on the system.

It was a pleasure to assist you. If you have any queries in future, please feel free to contact us.
