I'm currently using the wired mouse that came with my system. I have a wireless Logitech mouse that I used in vista, but each time I use the wireless mouse, after a short time it won't work anymore and my system becomes unreponsive. In the off chance I can get it to shut down using the keyboard, it will get stuck at "Shutting Down..."; this only happens when I use the wireless mouse.
If you installed a driver package that is mouse-specific, try downloading an updated version from Logitech (if it exists).
It's always worked without any software. Also, I did try updating the driver through windows update but it said it already had the best drive available.
There's absolutely no reason for me to lie when I'm trying to solve a problem. I plugged it in, it worked, it says it has the most up to date software. It's a wireless usb.

There appears to be a misunderstanding. I didn't accuse you of lying, nor did I imply it, not even obliquely.
Since you never had to install drivers for it previously, I suggested that there's no need to start doing so now because it would only make the situation more complex.
Knowing whether the symptom is the same when the machine boots into safe mode helps with the troubleshooting strategy.
Knowing whether it's perhaps a bluetooth mouse leads to other recommendations regarding interference issues.

is the thing charged does it need a new battery. I use a wireless trackball instead of mouse with no problems, I do have problems when battery is low
I've experienced this problem since I upgrade to Win7x64 a few years ago. I love my Trackball and but when it happens I could chuck it out the window. I also have a Marble which is wired, but it's not the same! And yes I've downloaded the latest divers from Logitech and have SetPoint which ran a check for the correct downloads when I reinstalled. And its not the batteries. I rang up Logitech and asked them if I bought a new keyboard and mouse would I experience it? They couldn't give me a convincing answer. -
