Dell Laptop CD drive no longer works.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 With windows 7. Mostly add music and photos on it &
read articles on the internet. The icon of the PC has a flag, and no other devices are shown. When I go to device manager, it does show Optiarc DVD + RW AD = 7585H with a yellow flag.
Did the troubleshooting and it said was unable to repair, and code 52 was provided. Also
says windows cannot identify the digital signature for the device.
Tried system restore which did not help. Tried uninstall, and rebooted.
Still shows the flagged driver and of course does not work.

Downloaded Mr Fixit. But not able to locate the device. Uninstalled driver, and then tried to download driver from
Dell. Thought when I rebooted, it would pick up the newly downloaded driver, but still had yellow flag. Probably going to go to technical help line.

Hi vince1776,

Welcome to Seven forums.

Please try the steps suggested in the posts above. If the issue still persists you can manually edit the registry to resolve this issue.

Kindly uninstall the CD drive from your system. And then take a backup of the registry following the link below:

Registry - Backup and Restore

Once done then perform the steps below:

Deleting Filters

1. Click the Start button, click on start search box, type regedit in the box, and then click OK.
2. In Registry Editor, expand the following registry path:
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Note:
To expand the registry path, click the plus sign (+) that appears next to each node in the left pane. When the plus sign is clicked, the node expands and the appropriate registry subkeys are displayed under the node. In Registry Editor, the registry subkeys appear as folders
4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
5. In the right pane, right-click Upper Filters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes when prompted to delete the registry value.
7. In the right pane, right-click Lower Filters, and then click Delete.
8. Click Yes when prompted to delete the registry value.
9. Quit Registry Editor. To do this, click Exit on the File menu.
10. Restart the computer.

It should load the drivers properly on the system now. Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Computer won't boot, but hard drive works when docked to laptop
My computer won't boot. I took it to Geek Squad just this week and they said it's not a hardware problem and that it boots fine in safe mode. Pulling my hair out... nothing works to clone a new drive in laptop
First, I HATE Microsoft. There, I said it. NOT ONE of their tech or "how to" articles has ever worked. Not a single one, and their tutorials on backup and restore are no different. I recently bought a Samsung 250 GB SSD to put in my Dell XPS-17 to speed it up. The OEM drive is a Toshiba...
