    HDMI Adapter

    Hi,

This is a HP 6720s notebook.

It only has a VGA connector. I need a HDMI connector.

I wonder if there are any external HDMI adapters or converters. I guess VGA isn't the best thing to convert from since it's analog.

I could use USB ports and an expresscard slot.

Are there any USB-to-HDMI or ExpressCard-to-HDMI adapters? Do such things exist? :)

Hi there .. Not sure how this would work with your Laptop . I think it might be better to get a new one rather than do any upgrades .. Any how have a look in the Link below . No idea how much it costs . But i am sure you can find the cost in the Link if needed .

That device that Maxie linked to looks promising although a little pricey ($148 on Amazon).

The issue you have is that VGA (BTW, VGA is digital not analog) only contains the video whereas hdmi contains both audio and video. That means if you intend to play videos or games from your laptop to a TV, you need an adapter that combines the audio and video from your notebook to be able to send to the TV. If you only intend to use a external monitor and don't require sound you can ignore the audio requirement.

A converter like this: HDMI Cable, Home Theater Accessories, HDMI Products, Cables, Adapters, Video/Audio Switch, Networking, USB, Firewire, Printer Toner, and more! should work for you and is substantially less expensive ($30) than the wireless unit that Maxie posted.

You don't say what you want to do but another possibility if you are trying to watch Netflix or YouTube videos from laptop to your TV is the newly available Google Chromecast device: Chromecast

This looks very promising! Thank you! :)
Exactly what I'm looking for :)

Well yes. But as I can't afford a new notebook anytime soon and given that this device could work with multiple computers, I might consider it. It's also very convenient that it's wireless :)

Nah I don't know, but I'll think about it. You guys know, it's always great to make plans

Well, I plan to use it to watch videos (not just YouTube but also my own camera videos) etc.
So yeah, having sound on HDMI would be great but as I'm saving up the adapter you linked looks very handy

The Chromecast device looks interesting but I want to have a standard video connection (like VGA) to stream whatever I want :) Occassionally even show websites and stuff to family on the large TV screen.
    I'll see.

Thanks to both of you! :)

If you use the Chrome browser, anything you see in the browser can be "cast" to the TV screen.

Sure. Not only that but the Chrome browser will also allow you to "cast" your desktop to the TV so pretty much anything you can display on your computer can be shown on the TV.
