Hi, I'd like to ask if it is possible or worth it to upgrade the processor on my Toshiba p200-1ee.

My Laptop specs are below for viewing?

    TIA

Scotty in a nutshell mate and after having quite few Toshibas I would not try the effort upgrading is quite involved and if you are not familiar with swapping out CPU's in laptops then it could need up you rendering it useless.

If it is a bit more performance you want the try this https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11728-optimize-windows-7-a.html

The only other thing I can suggest is the first thing that Brink refers to in that tutorial - a SSD and dump the Toshiba bloatware by doing a clean install on the SSD Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Hi buddy thanks very much for your advice as it's greatly appreciated. I will have a wee look at the links you have given.

Nice to see someone from down under. My mate went over last year for a 4yr contract with a mining contract and lives in Perth with the family. I think he's working in the mines top North of Perth.

You may be able to swap in a faster cpu, you well have to do some leg work, search Google. Adding memory is normally worth the effort. I swapped out a 1.6ghz cpu and 2 megs memory in my Dell Inspiron to a 2.2ghz 4 megs memory, cost was under $40 off evil bay. I had to change out a dieing fan so I did the cpu and added more memory. Made a significant improvement, my weak link now is the embedded GPU, not much can be done about that. Even with the poor gpu my wei went from 3.0 to 3.5 and if I could upgrade the gpu I could get in the mid 5's on the wei.

Find out what's compatible with your mobo and bios and do it.

Hiyya Scotty if you do find a better CPU mate you might find this very handy
Taking apart Toshiba laptops and notebooks. DIY guides. Disassembly instructions.
the next one down is your laptop:)

Taking apart and removing motherboard from Toshiba Satellite P205 notebook

Read the very first page (top ref / link) first as it contains important tips on disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon cables and be careful with them they are not that durable.

I do mine on a large white bath towel taped to the desk or table top to stop those small screws from skidding across the hard top and getting lost (and they will) on the floor. Do not use too much compound on the dies and cooler plates especially the graphics chip.

If you get into strife post back:)
