    Services

Not sure where this question should go, but here it is.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64Bit w/SP1 & (using the info found at blackviper.com) I tweaked my Services using the 'SAFE' configuration. Problem is, now I cannot scan a document into my comfuser using my AIO printer. The Print Spooler is set to Automatic & Started, but scanning to the comfuser is not working.

I asked at BlackViper.com, but have not received any response. Anyone able to help?

Go back and turn on the services you turned off or if you are not sure use system restore to go back to before the problem occured

I am not a fan of tweaking services. Unless your system is desperately short of memory you will gain very little. On the other hand, the risks of tweaking services are well known. The only "safe" service configuration is the default. There is no complete listing anywhere that fully describes what each service does.

I went in & changed all the services back to Windows Default settings, rebooted & tried scanning again. Success, but strange occurance. The problem was that WIA was not starting, although I did have it in Manual mode (its default) all along.

Most likely the WIA service did not start because one of it's dependent services was not running. When Windows attempts to start a service it will not go through the list of dependencies and start those that are not running, even if they are set to manual.

A Manual startup setting is often thought of as a safe alternative to disabling a service. It isn't. In general the only services that can be safely set to manual are those that are that way by default.

You are not the first to run into trouble by following Black Vipers advice.
