HELP : Choosing my new Monitor

Hello to everyone!


I just want some help in choosing my new monitor. My current monitor is only 17" using a VGA cable only. I want something not exceeding a size of 23". The problem is, I don't know what brand to buy and what video port to use: HDMI or DVI.. Some says HDMI and others DVI. I read that HDMI is newer and commonly used for HD resolutions but I saw a monitor with DVI cable but it is amazing. How can I choose between the two and what monitor brands do better these days? Available brands here are HP, Samsung, ASUS, Sony, Skyworth, Sanyo, AOC, TCL, and LG.

I have a couple of LG 21.5 inch IPS screen monitors (IPS225 and 22EA53) both LED. They have rather wobbly stands but the picture quality is wonderful for such cheap monitors.

I forgot to mention they both have analog and dvi and the 22EA53 has hdmi as well. They are both 1920X1080. I prefer the dvi connection with a pc.

Beside LG's wobbly stands, I see it not quite good in appearance. it looks too simple and if I'm not mistaken, it has control buttons, not like the Samsung with controls at the bottom that "cannot be felt by fingers" when operating. (Sorry, I don't know what it is called. ) Anyway, can I ask why do you prefer to use DVI over HDMI in PCs?

So, I also thought the Samsung to be good. But why not go to other brands? Can you tell me your opinions about them? Also, do HDMI/DVI cables have to do with the screen refresh rate of the monitor? Does it have any effect in performance or something?

I have 2 Philips 226V4L 21.5" HD 1920 x 1080 LED monitors. These do not have audio built in but there is an audio version available & there is no HDMI version. From what I have been able to find out from various sources the general thought is that DVI is better than HDMI for computer use.

HDMI and DVI video are practically identical. They share the same video specs. So use whichever one is most convenient.

DVI connections are more robust having screw secured plugs. If you use HDMI, don't be conned into buying overpriced so called premium cables, they might be better over 30 metres but over common distances the cheap ones work fine. I use 3 metre HDMI and DVI with no problems. The buttons on the bottom of the LG screens work ok, they are one of those controls which hardly ever get used, so the Samsung touch sensitive controls are a bit gimmicky.
