ok, i had hoped they would do something . mine work fine.
maybe have a bit more of a play with them

this is the winamp guide for hotkeys...

    Global Hotkeys

    • Enable default multimedia key support: Will attempt to process media keys by using WM_APPCOMMAND messages ('off' by default). Try checkmarking this option if your Play/Pause, Stop, Previous & Next keys aren't recognized by just using the 'Enable' Global Hotkeys setting below.
    • Enabled: Checkmark this to enable Global Hotkeys. Global Hotkeys can be used to perform actions (Play, Stop, Next, Previous, Rate Items, Copy Title, etc) even when Winamp isn't the active application.
    • Action: Select which extra hotkeys to enable via the drop-down menu.
    • Hotkey: Use your keyboard to select a unique hotkey for the selected action (eg. hold down Ctrl + Shift + H) then click the 'Add' button.

Yes, I know this, this I what I did..like I said, the media keys don't function like other keys so when my cursor is in the box for selecting keys for hotkeys and I press the media keys, they don't input anything into the options, they just do their "system function" I guess.

i think its a focus thing, when winamp has focus the keys seem to work ok, from your earlier description
at least that is what i think as you said if you manually skip with winamp, the skipping gives winamp focus so the keys work .
its when its not in focus the keys dont seem to work.
as an experiment let a tune get half way whilst doing other stuff then click on the winamp window then see if the keys work.
if not then im out of ideas.
i used to have a lenovo laptop and to use the keys i had to give winamp focus,
the hp laptop im using doesnt have that problem.

also a workaround but may be handy anyway ...
winamp remote from your android. assuming you have one.

    I tested your theory, it seems you are right, if Winamp is "in focus" then the keys work as normal. ;-;
also yeah that's way too fiddly especially considering my S2 is slow as **** but nice idea either way!

I'm unsure that's even correct, now...I just did the same thing again and even though Winamp appeared to have "focus" the song was still restarted...perhaps it's a hardware issue..

    possibly,

i would say my phone is slow as also, but it works brilliantly as a winamp remote, it can even pause the tune if you get a phone call so you can hear your phone ringing.

i know you said you did this but can you double check this was the way you did it...
