    Dell Optiplex780 (socket 775), 2gb Ram, E5300 work with 7 & PSCS6?

I have been given this Dell Optiplex 780 which comes with Win XP for work. On the software side, I can easily upgrade to Win 7, no problem. I am not sure it will work nicely though.

After running Sisoftware sandra, here are the pc spec:
    Mobo: Dell 0C27VV
    RAM: Samsung 2 GB DDR3-1334 (9-9-9-25). I thought ram was DDR 3 1333?
    CPU: Intel E5300

It has 2 PCI slots with 1 PCIE slot.

What is the cheapest DVI/HMI and Anologue graphic card I can get to place in this? Hopefully passive cooling. I will run 2 monitors from this. My own Dell U2311HM has DVI, Analog and HDMI slot and the included 19" (I think) dell monitor only has an analogue slot.

I will not play games on this, this is purely for work. I do use Photoshop at work and work with 3D files such as .obj, .stl files. I don't mind a graphic card equivalent of a GT 540M (which is now in my laptop as it can run the 3D files). I have Adobe CS6.

Second upgrade is the RAM. I am not sure if this RAM is HT capable or not. The mobo has 4 slots and 2 slots are color coded. Max supported ram is 16 GB. I think I will only use up to 8 GB for now. If this is HT, is it possible to get 3 other samsung sticks? If this is not HT, I don't mind getting the cheapest DDR3 RAM. The manual says that I can upgrade max 4gb per slot, DIMM hence 16 GB ram.

Need a spec that can run photoshop nicely: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-...em_requirements

Is it true that this computer is worthless at running photoshop? The CPU has dell's version own heatsink. Dell used the front intake fan as the CPU fan which is then directed into a duct straight onto the heatsink which forms part of the heatsink on the CPU. I do see portions of the CPU jutting out without a heatsink over it. I do work in an AC environment of aobut 22-24C.

Aside from that, I will put in a OCZ Synapse Cache drive to speed things up. Will that tax the CPU even more?

    Hi mystvearn,

Thanks for providing this information. Please check the link below where you can purchase the memory upgrade for your system:

4 GB Dell Certified Replacement Memory Module for Select Dell Systems : Memory | Dell

And, regarding the video card most of the video cards would be compatible with this system. Unfortunately we don't have video card upgrades available for this system. However, below are the list of videod cards we have tested and confirm would work with this system without any issues:

    ATI RADEON 3470
    ATI RADEON 3450
    NVIDIA GEFORCE 9300 GE

It was shipped with 255 and 305 watt power supply so you should confirm the same while upgrading the graphic card on the system.

Hope this information helps. If you have any further queries then feel free to reach out to us.

Yes. I've done a power calculator test, I have about 150W of headroom to work with. So I will see which upgrades I can use
