    Hidden data on my hard drive?


    I have a storage drive inside my desktop tower (F:). It is a 1tb drive. According to windows ex it only has 288 GB of free space on it.



    When I click the drive and look at the files I can see, they all only add up to 229gb. That means there should still be 700 + gb left on that drive.



    There is a system backup "TRUMBLE-DESKTOP" there and I don't know how large that file is.

    Why is it displaying so full? Does it really make sense that the system backup would be that large? The OS drive is a 120gb and it has 42gb of free space, so how could the system backup be that big?

    Windows will actually save many backups to that folder. Depending on how often you do a backup, they could go back weeks and be the size of your system drive.

    For example:
    100 GB system drive x 7 backups = 700 GB

    That may explain the size of that particular file/folder. If you delete some of your old backups, you should regain the space.

    You can right click on TRUMBLE-DESKTOP, then Properties to see the size.

    Try this to see if there are more files on the drive.

I don't know what's up. I just reformated my pc and i find out that i have 40 or so gbs hidden from view. This picture explains it all. I used ccleaner to WIPE free space only option and it did nothing to "fix" it. If i get zero answers here i plan to clean my 300 up. x-fer "77" gbs. format....

Hi, Just upgraded to Win 7 from Vista (clean install). Also rearranged partitions from 3 to 2. Windows Explorer shows my current Data partition (E: as 69 GB free of 109 GB (so 40 GB used). But TreeSize Free only lists 34.1 GB of files and directories. How do I find what is using the other 6.9...
