Windows 7 pro, USB, Code 43 on external device - NTSF not an option

I tried different cords, tried every USB port on the new machine. All other USB devices are working properly IE mice, cameras, interfaces, etc.

One other thing I am looking into is that the device may be set for FAT32 or HFS+, so I even loaded up a MAC reader, to no avail. Reformatting to NTSF is not an option because this is a machine, not a drive, that normally shows up USB as an external thumb drive for file transfers.

*whew* long winded...

Any thoughts?

Welcome to Seven forums.

You would need to load the correct drivers to ensure it is properly detected on the system and working as designed.

If you had received any drivers disk with it then kindly use the same to install it on the system. There is a possiblity it might not be supported with Windows 7 as well.

Try to locate the drivers using the link below:

This is getting weirder but, at least working now. If I plug the unit DIRECTLY into ANY usb port on the PC, it fails. If, however, I plug my cheesy 10 port USB hub into the PC, then the recording unit into the hub, it works fine.

The investigation continues...but at least I have a work around for now.

Well I just got done with an hour and fifteen minutes on the phone and online with Dell support on my pesky machine. The rep logged onto my PC, re-installed drivers, flashed BIOS, did it all. Same results afterwards. Works in some ports, not others. New Motherboard on the way. Thanks - Mike

Its great to hear that you have contacted out phone support and they are replacing the motherboard of the system to ensure resolution for this issue.

Please check the system in front of the engineer to ensure the problem is resolved with the system. And keep us posted with the results after the motherboard replacement.

Dell tech came out, installed new motherboard, new USB ports, flashed BIOS again to verify most current. Problem persists with new hardware.

End results with the new hardware have not changed:

If my recorder USB is plugged into my (2.0) 10 port hub, then into the PC, it works (on all ports). Plugged in directly, it does not work. The recorder is USB 2.0. Having problems with no other devices as stated earlier. Does not matter if other USB devices are connected or not, same results.

Will try next as time permits: A Windows issue or USB 3.0 vs 2.0 port issue with the recorder. Manufacturer states there should be no issues on a 3.0 port. Also going to try to setup dual boot, then to a different OS to see what happens.

Last but not least, will try a friends Win 7 32 bit system to see if it is recognized there.

I prefer not to re-install Windows simply because I can always pull the music files off the recorder in other ways, IE yank the flash card. (And the computer reads that just fine...)

And, again, at least I have still have that workaround with the hub

Thanks for updating us all with the results. It seems windows is unable to load the drivers automatically when the device is connected directly without the hub.

Does this device require any different drivers to be installed on the system. Kindly check this device on a different system and let us know the results of the same.

All this thing is is a recorder that saves your recorded music as .wav's onto a flash, which you can access via the built in USB, or by shutting down, pulling the flash and using a card reader or in the case of my new PC putting the flash right into the mini slot. That is why the USB is better - I don't have to shut down to pull the wav files.

Will experiment this weekend if possible. Since I have a work around with the hub at least I can work again and keep on schedule :)
