Hi, new to the forum, so not sure if I am in the correct section.
Need help relatively quickly. I have a Dell M5030 running windows 7 home premium. It is 2.5 years old, and has had 3 hard drives, two new motherboards, and now finally the hard drive has died yet again. Long and short, Dell have agreed to replace laptop but want the M5030 back. I have managed to get some data off the old hard drive using a caddy and usb cable, but I would like to wipe the hard drive before it goes back to Dell.
I have never done anything like this before, and am a relative novice compared to a lot of you on these forums, hence my need for help. Is it possible to use the caddy and usb cable for the old hard drive, and put it on another computer to wipe the drive? If so, could anyone tell me how to do this. I have heard of Eraser, but not sure if it is the right programme to use. Also, I am concerned that if I connect the old hard drive via a caddy and usb cable to another computer, that everything will be wiped, not just the old hard drive. Any assistance would be much appreciated. The computer has to go back to Dell on Wednesday, so if anyone has any ideas before then, I would love to hear them. Thanks in advance.
